Plot
summary and comments: The first Miss Marple novel. Set amidst the village
life of St. Mary Mead, where Miss Marple has always lived, it is narrated
by the vicar of the title (the Rev. Leonard Clement). An irritating parishioner,
Colonel Protheroe, is found dead in the vicar's study; suspects include
the vicar himself, his wife Griselda, and his teenage nephew Dennis, as
well as the Colonel's wife, daughter, an anthropologist, and a mysterious
Mrs. Lestrange. Miss Marple's neighbor, Dr. Haydock, and novelist nephew
Raymond West, will be recurring characters. The story was produced as
a play (not by Christie) in 1949.

"The
Murder at the Vicarage was a very slow book and you have to have logic
to figure it out but once you get past the slow part it progresses very
fast. Miss Marple does it again in solving another murder. She does not
miss a thing and is very sharp. I highly recommend this book to readers
of all ages."

"- I usually don't read mysteries , I often find them quite boring
and are easily solved but this is the exact opposite! Her twists and turns
give your fingers cramps from turning so fast! i read it in 3 hours and
now I am hooked! The irony of having someone murdered in a vicar's study
is clever. Plus the suspects are endless because everyone despises the
victim, even the vicar has been heard to say that he'd be better off dead!
All in all, a gripping novel of suspense! Two thumbs up! "

"I think overall that the "Queen of Crime" overdid herself
in this one. There are a few too many plotlines outlined at once and overall
it becomes a LITTLE too complicated for my liking. That said however the
characters were as fun as ever and a welcome romance for Hastings! (warning.this
book contains identical twins-always a problem!)"
"No
complaints. As usual, Christie delivers on a satisfying mystery. "
