Plot
summary and comments:
When forensic anthropologist Elizabeth MacPherson becomes the official P.I. for her brother Bill's fledgling Virginia law firm, she quickly takes on two complex cases. Eleanor Royden, a perfect lawyer's wife for twenty years, has shot her ex-husband and his wife in cold blood. And Donna Jean Morgan is implicated in the death of her Bible-thumping bigamist husband.
Bill's feminist firebrand partner, A. P. Hill, does her damnedest for Eleanor, an abused wife in denial, and Bill gallantly defends Donna Jean. Meanwhile, Elizabeth's forensic expertise, including her special knowledge of poisons, gives her the most challenging case of her career. . . .

I love Sharyn McCrumb - I love most all of Sharyn McCrumb's books - but this one made me laugh out loud!!!!
.Such words of wisdom!!! - One of the funniest books I have ever read. When I am prompted to send a book or recommend a book to a friend, this is the one.
funny, good read but... - What is up with the dolphin story line? I see no need for it and it added nothing to the book. Other than that, this was a good book, liked how the story wrapped up.
Really annoying book - Some of the sub plots in this book were really interesting. But, the subplots about the mother's relationship, and the dolphin (don't even get me STARTED about the dolphin!)seemed to be just filler. It would have been better if those subplots were totally left out, and more time was spent developing the other characters. They all seemed very flat to me, although I felt McCrumb tried to flesh them out. More character development could have achieved this, and maybe then I would have been actaully intersted in the characters of A.P. Hill, Elizabeth, and Elizabeth's brother. See, I just finished the book the other day, and I can't remember his name already. Also, something that annoyed me in this book was that McCrumb would frequently both "show" you something, and then go ahead and "tell" you as well, just to make sure you got it. Like she couldn't give her readers enough credit for being smart enough to figure out what was going on in the book, or that they would catch an implied meaning. Oh no, she has to then go and have one of the characters explain away the implied meaning, just in case you, the reader, were too stupid to get it the first time. That really bugged me and I had to frequently close the book and roll my eyes. I read another McCrumb book years ago, and I don't recall it being nearly as obnoxious as thing one, but my memory may be bad.
I couldn't put it down - This book is a real page turner. No slow parts. Something for everyone. A very entertaining read. I couldn't put it down.
